What is University Archives & Historical Collections? |
UAHC was first established by the Board of Trustees in 1969 through BOT 302 - Archives and Records. UAHC maintains all permanent or historically significant records of Michigan State University regardless of format. For more on the history of UAHC, you can learn more here. |
What kinds of records does UAHC Collect? |
Collections include topics such as the administration of MSU, campus buildings and grounds, student life, faculty research, curriculum, and academic colleges and departments. UAHC staff use MSU retention schedules to determine which records should be transferred to UAHC for preservation. This primarily consists of records designated as permanent, but there may be temporary records with historical significance to MSU as well. For more on permanent records or records designated as may having archival value, please see the Record Retention page. Please note that records transferred into the custody of UAHC will eventually be made available to the public for review. |
How do I transfer records to UAHC? |
Paper records: To learn more about how to send boxes of paper records to UAHC, find the instructions on Transferring Records. Electronic records and media: For more on file formats and how to transfer electronic records or media to UAHC, see their Electronic Record Transfer page. |
Can I see what records UAHC has collected from my office in the past? |
Yes, you certainly can! For record collections that have been processed by UAHC staff, you can search the Finding Aids to see a sampling of what records are available. For other questions regarding what records your unit may have transferred in the past, including unprocessed materials, you can contact them at archives@msu.edu. |
